
Dagestan Leads in Electricity Theft by Miners
In 2023, the total volume of unaccounted electricity consumption by miners in the North Caucasus reached 22.5 million kWh, according to a report from the local branch of Rosseti.
Company specialists halted 19 instances of energy theft, resulting in losses amounting to nearly 79.6 million rubles.
Sixteen cases of unauthorized connections to power grids for cryptocurrency mining occurred in the Republic of Dagestan, with damages of 66.6 million rubles.
Two thefts were identified in Stavropol (6.3 million rubles) and one in Kabardino-Balkaria (6.6 million rubles).
Criminal cases have been opened for six incidents, while materials related to others are under review by law enforcement agencies.
As reported by ForkLog, Russian energy companies have previously discovered illegal mining farms in a underground parking garage and a garden association in Dagestan, as well as in an unfinished house in the Irkutsk region and an old boiler house near Novosibirsk.
