Deep Nostalgia lets ‘live’ photos dance and send an air kiss

The genealogy company MyHeritage has updated its AI-powered Deep Nostalgia service for bringing portraits to life, and added ten new movements for animating photos.

The new options let users activate such complex movements and expressions as an air kiss, a compassionate look, an approving nod, or a wink. Users also now have access to a wider variety of simple smiles.

The updated animations are already available to MyHeritage subscribers on the site or in the iOS and Android apps. New users can sign up for a free account and activate a 14-day trial.

The company also disclosed usage statistics. In five weeks since launch, users have animated 72 million photographs.

MyHeritage launched the Deep Nostalgia service in early March 2021.

The tool quickly evolved into something of a meme generator on Twitter, with users animating the most unexpected images, such as statues of Alexander the Great.
