The Russian government is not considering a ban on cryptocurrencies. This was stated by Andrey Lugovoy, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, said in an interview with RBC.
According to him, a working group in the State Duma, whose meeting is scheduled for February 16, has also not received any documents or proposals regarding a ban.
“Discussing any possibility of permitting a ban at this stage is pointless. There are different points of view that, during the discussion, should converge to a single understanding,” Lugovoy said.
The deputy noted that the Bank of Russia is the only entity considering banning cryptocurrencies.
Earlier, in contrast to the regulator’s hardline approach, the government has already approved the concept of regulating the market. A bill based on it will be presented 18 February.
Nevertheless, the Bank of Russia has prepared amendments to the law ‘On ЦФА‘ to ban the circulation of digital currencies in Russia.
