Detention extended for Finiko pyramid founder

On 25 November, Moscow’s Tverskoy District Court extended the detention of Kirill Doronin, co-founder of the Finiko financial pyramid.

There is no detailed information about the case. However, according to the publication Business Online, the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ petition specifies a deadline of February 28, 2022.

The court also extended the detention of the pyramid’s “vice president,” Ilgiz Shakirov.

A criminal case has been opened against Finiko for fraud on a particularly large scale. It is being handled by the central apparatus of the Ministry of Internal Affairs together with investigators from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime.

Co-founders Edward and Marat Sabirov, as well as Zygmunt Zygmuntowicz, have been declared to be subject to an international arrest warrant and have been arrested in absentia. According to investigators, they left Russia via Belarus and may be in the United Arab Emirates.

The cumulative damage from Finiko’s activities, according to independent estimates, exceeds $4 billion. The number of those affected is at least 850,000.

Earlier, Kirill Doronin struck a deal with investigators and gave testimony against 44 accomplices in the pyramid scheme. He did not admit his guilt.
