Dormant Ethereum Addresses Move 1140 ETH After Nearly a Decade

On July 7, two Ethereum addresses became active for the first time in nearly a decade, transferring a total of 1140 ETH valued at approximately $2.9 million. This activity was noted by Whale Alert.

The wallets received 900 ETH and 240 ETH respectively through genesis transactions on the network’s launch day, July 30, 2015.

At that time, the coin was priced at approximately $0.31. Currently, the cryptocurrency trades around $2550, marking a 90,000% increase over the period.

Ethereum’s all-time high was recorded in November 2021 at $4878.

In April, analysts at CryptoQuant noted the activation of dormant bitcoins. In the first three months of the year, approximately 62,800 BTC, which had been inactive for over seven years, were moved.

In July, an unknown party transferred 80,000 BTC worth $8.6 billion from eight wallets that had been inactive for 14 years. The transactions sparked community discussions about the possible identity of the owner, the purpose of the operations, and even potential hacking.

Back in December 2024, an address that participated in the Ethereum ICO executed its first outgoing transaction in nine years, moving 631 ETH valued at $2.1 million at the time.
