Ethereum 2.0 genesis block launch date revealed

Ethereum Foundation developers have officially confirmed the launch of the ETH2 deposit contract, and announced the genesis block launch date.

According to v1.0.0 specifications of the second version of the protocol, the genesis block launch will take place on December 1 at 12:00 UTC. Initially this date was set for January 3, 2021.

Users noted that the stated code allowed only generating the keys required to deposit funds, but not the deposit contract itself.

Earlier today, from Ethereum Foundation developer Karl Beekhuizen’s GitHub uploaded code that, it was claimed, would initiate the launch of the deposit contract for ETH2’s second version. However, community members raised doubts about its authenticity. Users noticed that the code in question only generates the keys necessary to deposit funds, but not the deposit contract itself.

Earlier in October, Ethereum 2.0 lead developer Danny Ryan said that the ETH2 deposit contract would launch in the first half of November.
