IPFS will be deployed aboard a Lockheed Martin satellite. The project was made possible through a partnership between Filecoin and the American aerospace technology firm developing a decentralized storage system for the space industry.
The pilot launch after Lockheed Martin reaches orbit will be a demonstration. The test will show possible uses for decentralized storage in space. Particular attention will be paid to the viability of space-to-ground communications using IPFS.
In October, Filecoin’s creators launched the Saturn Content Delivery Network.
