VideoCardz published the first photographs of Nvidia Gigabyte CMP 30HX, a graphics processor built specifically for cryptocurrency mining.

The chip is based on the TU116-100 and has 6 GB of GDDR6 memory.

The number of CUDA cores remains unknown, but experts estimate it will be 1,280 or 1,408 cores. The model’s power draw is not expected to exceed 125 W.

Because it lacks a video output, the GPU cannot be used for gaming. The Ethereum mining hash rate is 26 MH/s. A similar figure is seen with the GeForce RTX 3060, which carries a mining limiter for that cryptocurrency.

The graphics card will go on sale in March 2021 through Nvidia’s AIB partners. Its price remains unknown.

Gigabyte CMP 30HX is the youngest model in the new line. By comparison, the Gigabyte CMP 90HX delivers a hash rate of 86 MH/s. It will be available for purchase only in May 2021.

Earlier, Chinese miners reported that they managed to bypass the protection of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 desktop GPU to limit the hash rate. Nvidia itself had claimed that the protection could not be bypassed.

The decision to halve the hash rate of the GeForce RTX 3060 was explained by the GPU maker as aimed at aligning the model with gamers’ needs.

The Nvidia CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor) line is designed to meet miners’ demand.
