Former Disney chief warns of copyright infringements in the NFT sector
Former president and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Robert Iger in подкасте Sway evaluated the opportunities in the non-fungible token sector (NFT) and raised the issue of copyright infringement.
“Our generation forgets that things do not necessarily have to be physical. They can be digital and have meaning for people. And as long as that meaning is essentially grounded in the blockchain, I think you will see a boom in things created, sold, and collected in NFT,” said Iger.
Earlier, the company заключила partnership agreement with the Veve platform to launch NFTs featuring popular Disney characters. Noting the possibilities of non-fungible tokens, Iger expressed concern about copyright infringements in the sector.
“I went to a platform called OpenSea, … and I was struck by all the Disney items on it … . Most of them were not created by people who had the rights to do so,” said the former president of the company.
Earlier, the film studio Miramax accused Quentin Tarantino of unfair competition, breach of contract and copyright infringement after his announcement of an NFT auction based on “Pulp Fiction”.
