Global Windows Outage Sparks Surge in Meme Coins

Users have launched dozens of new tokens dedicated to CrowdStrike and Microsoft’s “blue screen of death” (BSoD) amidst a global outage of the tech giant’s systems and services.

Issues with Windows hosts were caused by a defective update of CrowdStrike’s Falcon Sensor security product. The company’s CEO, George Kurtz, stated that the error was “identified, isolated, and fixed.” 

However, the outage affected numerous organizations and enterprises worldwide, including airports, healthcare institutions, and media. (The photo in the post above features the famous “Sphere” in Las Vegas). 

The incident prompted the launch of themed meme coins. One of the most popular was BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH (MICROSUFT) on Solana. The coin’s price surged by 117% within hours of trading, with a market capitalization reaching $134,000.

Corresponding figures for Meowcrosoft (MS) reached 223% and $204,000. Trading volumes for both assets exceeded $1 million.

The token Micro n Soft (MNS) at the time of writing had nearly returned to its initial quotes, but traders executed over 4,500 transactions with the asset.

The meme coin CrowdStrike launched on Ethereum achieved a market capitalization of $174,000 with a trading volume of $519,000.

Tokens Blue screen of death (BSOD) and Blue Screen Of Feath (BSOD) on Ethereum and the L2 network Base respectively did not attract significant investor interest. The combined value of the former is just $5,900, and the latter $42,000.

Earlier in the second quarter, meme coins emerged as the most popular narrative in the crypto industry, accounting for a 14.34% share, according to CoinGecko.
