In Abkhazia, miners face threat of equipment destruction

Since November, Russia has begun supplying electricity to Abkhazia on a commercial basis. Against this backdrop, in Sukhumi the operational headquarters for combating cryptocurrency mining has resumed operations, local media СМИ.

Beslan Eshba, head of the capital’s administration, stressed that authorities will tighten the approach to illegal digital-asset mining — equipment will be seized and immediately disposed of.

“We will again create operational groups to identify locations where mining equipment is installed. I would note that over the years of operation of our headquarters the loads on the power grids have significantly decreased,” he said.

According to Dzhambulat Arshba, head of SUES, the fight against mining did not stop. In total, checks were conducted on 1,112 apartments, 712 households, 405 basements.

\n\n

Dzhambulat Arshba, head of the Energy Sales Department of SUES, noted that the number of electricity consumption meters by the end of the year would be about 13,000. This will cover more than 50% of subscribers, the specialist noted.

\n\n

In 2022, the republic’s authorities approved special tariffs for miners, despite the existing ban on cryptocurrency mining.
