In South Korea, Samsung to give NFTs to Galaxy S22 pre-order customers

Samsung, in partnership with Theta Labs, will gift commemorative non-fungible tokens to buyers of the Galaxy S22 smartphone or Galaxy Tab S8 tablet. Pre-order customers in South Korea will be eligible to receive an NFT.

Mitch Liu, CEO and co-founder of Theta Labs, told Decrypt that the NFTs confer ‘permanent benefits and membership privileges’. He did not disclose further details.

Pre-orders for the new Samsung products opened on 9 February, with devices going on sale on 25 February.

Theta Labs is behind the Theta Network project—a decentralised blockchain-based video streaming network. Its users share bandwidth and computing resources.

Earlier Samsung added support for the cryptocurrency wallet Samsung Blockchain Wallet on most Galaxy devices.

In August, the corporation joined a pilot project for CBDC under the Bank of Korea.

In January 2022, Samsung introduced new models of smart TVs with an intuitive built-in platform for discovering, buying and selling digital artworks.
