Indian Supreme Court’s YouTube Channel Hijacked for Crypto Scam Promotion
Hackers seized control of the Indian Supreme Court’s YouTube channel to promote a scam involving Ripple and the cryptocurrency XRP.
On September 20, the perpetrators changed the channel’s name, which had 217,000 subscribers, and deleted all previous videos. They then launched a fake broadcast featuring Ripple Labs CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
The scammers urged investments in a fraudulent token and spread phishing links. To attract attention, the video title predicted “XRP to rise to $2 this month.”
After some time, YouTube’s administration blocked the channel.
Account hacks on video hosting platforms are not new to the crypto community. In June, Dogecoin graphic designer known as DogeDesigner discovered a YouTube livestream featuring a deepfake of Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk promoting a scam.
Back in July 2022, hackers breached the British Army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts to advertise crypto fraud.
