Intel CEO signals plan to embed AI in every product
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, in the second-quarter 2023 earnings report, said he planned to embed artificial intelligence in every product the company creates. The Verge reports.
“In the future AI will be in every hearing aid, including mine,” he added.
According to Gelsinger, AI and cloud solutions do not necessarily have to coexist. He suggested that new tools and features would be implemented on the client side, rather than in the cloud environment.
“Whether it’s a client, a retail-facing peripheral platform for commerce, manufacturing and industry, or an enterprise data center, they will not sit on a dedicated 10 MW power farm,” he explained.
Earlier Intel demonstrated the operation of the AI coprocessor Meteor Lake. A key feature of the chip is the Versatile Processing Unit neural engine.
In February 2022, Gelsinger criticized Bitcoin for its environmental impact. In April 2023, Intel announced that it would discontinue the release and support of the Blockscale line of chips, designed for mining the first cryptocurrency.
