The chip is set to be operational in 2025.
“This will accelerate the development of automotive technologies and usher in a new era of AI-driven interfaces and enhanced personalization for both manufacturers and drivers,” the announcement stated.
The new processor will enable “full-scale large language models and generative AI applications to run locally within the vehicle without cloud reliance.”
“The rapid development cycles of electric vehicles and China’s advanced technologies make it an ideal testing ground for our next-generation technologies,” commented Jack Weast, head of the company’s automotive division.
In early August, Intel announced the layoff of 15% of its workforce, or about 15,000 employees, amid lagging in the AI race. The company’s shares fell by 19%, after which the chipmaker’s CEO, Pat Gelsinger, posted one of Solomon’s proverbs from the Old Testament on X.
It later emerged that Intel had been in talks with OpenAI to purchase a 30% stake in the AI startup but backed out of the deal about seven years ago.
In April, the firm unveiled its next-generation AI chip, Gaudi 3.
Back in the summer of 2023, Gelsinger announced plans to integrate artificial intelligence into every product of the firm.
