Interpol issues an international arrest warrant for former Wirecard director Jan Marsalek

Jan Marsalek, the former chief operating officer of the German fintech startup and card issuer Wirecard, has been placed on the international wanted list. Information about this размещена on Interpol’s website.

Requests for his search and arrest for extradition will be sent to law enforcement authorities worldwide.

On the eve of this, the Bavarian Ministry of Justice called for assistance in locating Marsalek. The agency said it has every reason to believe Marsalek is responsible for organizing fraud, misappropriation of funds and other property and economic crimes.

According to one version, Jan Marsalek is hiding in Russia.

Wirecard worked with a number of well-known companies in the crypto industry, including Crypto.com, TenX and CryptoPay. In 2018 it joined the list of the 30 largest German companies tracked by the DAX.

In June, a shortfall of €1.9 billion was found on Wirecard’s accounts. Shortly afterwards the company began bankruptcy proceedings, and former CEO Markus Braun was detained on suspicion of falsifying data on the company’s cash balances.

Earlier in August appeared information about the death of German businessman and key Wirecard partner Christopher Bauer.
