Jack Dorsey Steps Down from Bluesky Board

Jack Dorsey has stepped down from the board of directors of Bluesky, a decentralized alternative to the social network X.

With Jack’s departure, we are searching for a new board member for the Bluesky public benefit company who shares our commitment to building a social network that puts people in control of their experience. More to come!

Bluesky confirmed Dorsey’s departure, thanking him for his role in launching and funding the project. The platform’s representatives have begun the search for a new board member.

Dorsey did not provide a reason for his decision.

According to Bluesky statistics, 5.6 million people are registered on the platform.

Data from the Big Tech Alert tracker indicates that Dorsey has reduced his following list to three individuals: Elon Musk, former NSA and CIA employee Edward Snowden, and Stella Assange, the wife of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Dorsey announced the decentralized social media platform project in 2019. In February 2022, the organization Bluesky PBLLC was established.

In April, following Twitter’s decision to sell the social network to Elon Musk, Bluesky reiterated its independence.

In July 2023, Dorsey’s project raised $8 million in a seed funding round.
