Kazakhstan issues payment card linked to the digital tenge

Halyk Bank and Visa have issued a payment card linked to the digital tenge. This was reported by местные СМИ.

The first transaction using it was conducted at the XI Congress of Financiers.

The card can be used anywhere that Visa is accepted, and it is compatible with international payment systems.

A full-scale rollout of the digital tenge is planned for the end of 2025.

As reported, the second phase of testing of the digital tenge platform concluded in December 2022. It involved real consumers and retail and service enterprises.

As of October 2022, more than 3,500 transactions with the token had been completed through a dedicated app.

In September 2023, the National Bank of Kazakhstan handed over the implementation of the digital tenge project to the National Payment Corporation.
