Man shoots wife during dispute over Bitcoin investments
A domestic quarrel between 35-year-old Thai resident Utai Kritsada and his wife over unsuccessful investments in the first cryptocurrency escalated into a confrontation with police. The Thaiger reports this.
First, the man shot his wife with a pistol, then barricaded himself inside the house. Local police surrounded him and held their positions for six hours.
Kritsada conducted negotiations, assisted by a family member. After some time, the offender surrendered to authorities.
The man also threatened to kill himself if his wife died. In a state of stress he shot himself in the leg. Kritsada had to be hospitalized.
The injured woman remains in hospital in a stable condition under medical supervision.
The incident was triggered by a loss of 700,000 baht (~$19,500) on Bitcoin investments, which led to family discord. The wife evicted Kritsada and sought a divorce. He regularly visited her home, fearing infidelity. On the day of the incident, the man hoped to reconcile.
Thai authorities charged the detainee with attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
