In India, a 23-year-old employee of a major technology company attempted suicide after losing 3 million rupees (about $37,000) on investments in cryptocurrency. The Times of India reports this.

According to the publication, a taxi driver noticed the young man on the Vidyasagar Setu bridge in the city of Kolkata and alerted the police. The authorities prevented him from jumping into the Hooghly River.

During questioning, the investor described unsuccessful investments in the digital assets market. He had used borrowed funds and his mother’s pension for this. He allegedly received threats demanding repayment.

Earlier, the rehabilitation centre The Balance in Spain began offering treatment for addiction to trading digital assets. The course lasts four weeks. The cost of treatment exceeds $75,000.

Earlier, in January the head of the Reserve Bank of India, Shaktikanta Das compared cryptocurrency to gambling and urged its ban. In December 2022 he described digital assets as a source of the next crisis.
