Meta to open store to showcase the metaverse

Meta will open its first Meta Store retail location to familiarise consumers with virtual reality and the metaverse.

The store will feature the company’s VR headsets, Ray-Ban Stories glasses, and Portal devices. Visitors will have access to interactive demonstrations, displayed on a wall-to-wall LED display.

The company believes that physical retail stores will help not only sell more hardware but also acquaint consumers with virtual- and augmented-reality technologies.

“Having a store here in Burlingame gives us more opportunities for experimentation and keeps the customer experience at the heart of our development. What we learn here will help define our future retail strategy,” said Martin Gilliard, head of Meta Store.

The store is located near San Francisco, California, close to the Reality Labs headquarters. The opening is scheduled for May 9, 2022.

In April, Meta announced the imposition of a nearly 50% commission on sales in the metaverse.

In the same month, former Meta employee Frances Haugen warned about the privacy threat in the metaverse.
