MetaMask to enable cryptocurrency purchases via PayPal app

ConsenSys will add to the non-custodial MetaMask wallet the ability to buy cryptocurrency through the PayPal app.

Initially, access to the option will be opened to a limited number of users in the United States. According to the statement, through PayPal they will be able to purchase Ethereum with fiat and transfer it to the wallet (subject to sufficient funds).

The payment system opened withdrawal to third-party applications for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin in June. ConsenSys said that MetaMask would be the first to use this feature.

“Integrating PayPal will allow our US users not only to organically buy cryptocurrency through the wallet, but also to easily explore the Web3 ecosystem,” said Lorenzo Santos, MetaMask’s product manager.

In April, the wallet team added the ability to acquire digital assets for fiat via MoonPay. In May, it announced integration with Coinbase Pay service.

Earlier, ConsenSys warned about data collection of MetaMask users by Infura. In response to privacy concerns, the company shortened the data retention period to seven days.
