Meta’s Horizon Worlds to expand to mobile devices

Meta начала expansion of the Horizon Worlds metaverse beyond VR headsets, opening early access to the first world on mobile devices and computers.

According to the statement, a small number of users can now enter the game’s space, Super Rumble, via the Meta Quest app for Android. The iOS version will be released in the coming weeks.

Access is also available on the Horizon Worlds site via any web browser.

“While Quest headsets are the most exciting way to participate in the metaverse, we believe there should be several entry points. Moving worlds to a greater number of surfaces is a step toward realising this concept and opening the experience to more people,” Meta said.

The company noted that the same safety features used for mobile devices and internet access in the metaverse as on Quest are in place, including protections for minors.

All Horizon Worlds versions are free; participation is open to anyone aged 13 and over. At the time of writing, the app is supported only in Canada, France, Iceland, Ireland, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The company plans to gradually widen early access to the metaverse on mobile and web versions based on feedback and experience.

“As we roll out more worlds over the coming months, you’ll be able to hang out with friends, laugh with them at comedy shows and enjoy free concerts and events from any internet-connected device,” Meta said.

In April, rights advocates urged the company to introduce restrictions on access to the metaverse for minors.
