One of Mexico’s richest men and founder of the Grupo Salinas conglomerate, Ricardo Salinas Pliego, said in an interview with Bitcoin Magazine that Bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency, is superior to fiat.
“Everything we have in fiat can be fully seized by authorities. The government is not interested in facilitating the use of Bitcoin,” he noted.
Salinas Pliego explained that the decentralized nature of Bitcoin makes it significantly harder to ban or control.
Bitcoin can also be transferred instantly worldwide without intermediaries, unlike fiat and gold, the billionaire added.
As an additional advantage, he cited the capped supply of 21 million BTC, which makes it suitable as a store of value over the long term.
In Salinas Pliego’s view, people should focus on gaining a fundamental understanding of the history of money and fiat to appreciate Bitcoin’s value.
“But don’t expect to make easy money in 30 days,” the billionaire warned.
In November 2020, Salinas Pliego invested 10% of his liquid portfolio in Bitcoin.
In February 2021, the billionaire added the hashtag of the first cryptocurrency to the description of his Twitter account. In June, he urged everyone to invest in Bitcoin.
In his New Year address, Salinas Pliego urged followers to buy digital gold.
