According to him, the investments go beyond merely building data centers and are a “testament to a 37-year commitment to Spain, its security, development, and the digital transformation of its government, businesses, and population.”
The country’s president, Pedro Sanchez, shared a photo from his meeting with Smith and thanked him for his confidence in the Spanish economy.
“Public-private sector collaboration is essential for successfully addressing the challenges of digital transformation,” he added.
This move by Microsoft follows shortly after the tech giant announced it would invest $3.44 billion in Germany’s AI industry over the next two years.
Back in late January, the Federal Trade Commission initiated an investigation into Microsoft, OpenAI, Amazon, Anthropic, and Alphabet regarding “investments and partnerships” in the field of generative artificial intelligence.
