MicroStrategy buys another 1,914 BTC for more than $94 million

MicroStrategy, the business analytics software provider, has added to its holdings by purchasing 1,914 BTC for about $94.2 million. The average purchase price was about $49,229 per bitcoin, said CEO Michael Saylor.

According to the report, the transactions were conducted between December 9 and December 29.

As of writing, MicroStrategy held 124,391 BTC on its balance sheet, worth more than $5.9 billion at current prices. The firm spent about $3.75 billion on its purchases (the average price was $30,159 per bitcoin).

MicroStrategy was the first among public companies to allocate part of its capital to digital gold. In August 2020 the provider purchased 21,454 BTC (~$250 million at the time of the deal).

MicroStrategy continued to grow its crypto reserves in line with board-approved strategy.

Since December 2020 the company has used not only its own capital but also debt financing, issuing convertible bonds worth $650 million.

In February 2021 MicroStrategy launched a new tranche of more than $1 billion and again invested the raised funds into cryptocurrency.

Over the year the firm continued to invest in Bitcoin. The largest purchases were 13,005 BTC for $489 million in July and 7,002 BTC for $414.4 million in late November.

In early December MicroStrategy announced the acquisition of 1,434 BTC for about $82.4 million.

Mr. Michael Saylor personally holds approximately 17,732 BTC (~$842 million). The head of the company said he has never sold the cryptocurrency it acquired.
