Accused of mining, the Kyiv electronics retailer MOYO did not rule out that visitors could have launched the Ethereum mining software on the laptops. Local media report it.

Representatives of the retail chain confirmed that several showroom ASUS ROG laptops were mining cryptocurrency. However, the internal investigation is not yet complete.

“The Department of Internal Security continues the investigation to identify all those involved in the incident,” said MOYO PR manager Anastasia Kulichenko.

Retail staff were asked to monitor equipment closely, as unscrupulous cryptocurrency hunters may attempt to install similar software in stores of other retail networks.

It is not yet known whether MOYO staff themselves are involved.

According to Kulichenko, all laptops with mining software have been sent to the manufacturer’s service centre. The technicians will conduct a full examination of the devices’ technical condition and restore the factory software.

After that, by joint decision of MOYO and ASUS, the laptops will be placed in the Dream Town shopping centre’s demonstration gaming zone.

Earlier ForkLog reported that on several showroom gaming laptops a program to mine Ethereum had been launched.
