New York City Mayor Eric Adams did not mention crypto holdings in his financial-disclosure form. He pledged to amend the document, CNBC reports.
The 2022 data the politician подал to the Conflicts of Interest Board. When asked whether he owned any securities (including stocks, bonds, ETFs, mutual funds or cryptocurrencies) with a market value of $1,000 or more, he answered ‘no’.
An Adams spokesperson told CNBC that the mayor did not mention digital assets because he misunderstood the question and thought it referred only to securities.
“… the mayor will amend the form to reflect his assets as of the end of 2022,” a CNBC spokesperson said.
During the campaign, Adams said he planned to make New York more tech- and crypto-friendly, and urged competing with Miami’s growing business ambitions.
After taking office as mayor, he said that he would receive his first three salaries in bitcoin.
As reported in November 2021, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez outlined plans to become the first U.S. politician to convert his salary into the first cryptocurrency. He made the statement a week before Bitcoin hit an all-time high of $69,000.
In December 2022 he said that he still receives payments in digital gold, despite the bear market.
