Apple unveils Vision Pro mixed-reality headset

The tech giant Apple unveiled its mixed-reality headset, Apple Vision Pro, priced at $3,499.

The company described the new product as ‘the first spatial computer’, with a launch planned for early 2024.

The headset runs on the M2 and R1 chips, making the device quiet and fast.

“Thanks to tight hardware-software integration, we have developed an autonomous spatial computer in a compact wearable form factor, which is the most advanced personal electronic device ever created,” said Mike Rockwell, Apple’s Vice President of Technology Development.

Apple Vision Pro offers both augmented and virtual reality capabilities. The application interface overlays the digital environment, allowing control of the device with the eyes, hands, and voice.

“With VisionOS, the world’s first spatial operating system, Vision Pro allows users to interact with digital content as if it were physically present in their space,” the company noted.

Users will be able to enter an immersive environment, play video games, and view and share photos.

In January 2022, Apple rejected the idea of the metaverse for its mixed-reality headset. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the very concept of a digital world as seen in Meta is off-limits at the company.

In December 2021, reports indicated that Google was actively developing augmented reality glasses. The device was said to compete with Apple’s product.

Earlier, Apple product analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that mixed-reality headsets would replace smartphones in the next decade.
