Arbitrum developers unveil tool to build L3 solutions

The Offchain Labs team behind L2-protocol Arbitrum has released a tool to launch third-layer blockchains using the Orbit software stack.

According to the developers, Orbit enables you to create your own governance protocols, configure privacy, permissions, tokenomics and fees.

The tool is available on the Arbitrum One network and Arbitrum Nova, as well as on the Arbitrum Goerli testnet. All customizable chains can interact with one another.

“You can think of Orbit as deployable, customizable offshoots of the Arbitrum tech stack. … You can also think of them as networks tailored to your specific use case and business needs. This provides another way to gradually decentralize applications and adopt base-layer Ethereum security solutions,” the developers noted.

In addition to the new tooling, Offchain Labs has introduced the Orbit Devnet sandbox environment, which lets developers securely test smart contracts and applications before deploying them to mainnet.

The team noted that the technology’s main aim is to move toward a ‘multi-chain future’. Orbit helps reduce the load on base networks and increase their throughput.

In June, the gaming-focused project Xai announced the launch of an L3 blockchain based on Arbitrum.

As reported, the decentralized data-indexing protocol The Graph moved to the final stage migration from the Ethereum blockchain to Arbitrum in order to reduce transaction costs.
