Bit Digital brings back 39.2% of its mining rigs online after moving from China

The Nasdaq-listed mining company Bit Digital has deployed 39.2% of its mining rigs in North America, months after exiting China.

According to the SEC filing for the SEC, as of March 15 the firm operated 10,462 Bitcoin miners and 712 Ethereum miners. The hash rate of the equipment stood at 0.511 EH/s and 0.188 TH/s, respectively.

All installations have been based in North America since November 17, with the company continuing to work with hosting partners to provide hosting for them.

As of the end of 2021, Bit Digital had a fleet of 27,744 Bitcoin miners and 731 Ethereum mining devices, with an estimated hash rate of 1.6 EH/s and 0.3 TH/s.

In October, the company signed an purchase of 10,000 Antminers with Bitmain. This batch is expected to add about 1 EH/s to the firm’s Bitcoin hash rate.

The hardware is deployed at Compute North facilities in Nebraska and Texas. The host has provided 20 MW of Bit Digital’s mining capacity. Commissioning of an additional 28 MW is expected in the third and fourth quarters of 2022.

Another infrastructure partner, Blockfusion USA, installed its miners at 8 MW in data centres in New York state. In the summer, Bit Digital expects capacity to rise to 35 MW.

The hosting provider Digihost Technology provided 7 MW of capacity. It is planned that an increase in capacity to 20 MW will occur in Q2. The timeline for the expanded 100 MW agreement is not known.

Bit Digital also collaborates with Core Scientific, but the service provider at the Georgia facility connected only a small capacity for the firm — just 0.3 MW.

Meanwhile, the mining company lost hosting in the Canadian province of Alberta. Link Global Technologies, hosting 3.3 MW of equipment, did not receive operating permission and is seeking alternative sites.

The average electricity price across all partner contracts stands at $0.037 per kWh.

For Q4 2021 the company mined 240 BTC, while in the first three months mined 1,013 BTC, and in the following period generated 592 BTC. The decline was the result of migration from China, Bit Digital noted. The company completed shipping of the equipment on 31 September.

Since the Chinese ban in August 2021, the United States has taken the top share of Bitcoin hash rate. In November, Foundry USA first became the leader among mining pools by connected capacity.

Bit Digital joined Foundry in May.
