Blockstream unveils Jade hardware Bitcoin wallet

Blockstream has entered the market for hardware cryptocurrency wallets with the Jade device, open-source, which enables storing Bitcoin and other assets on the Liquid Network sidechain.

“Self-custody matters for Bitcoin's proper use. As we all know, trusting a third party is a hole in security. But storing keys on an internet-connected device can expose private keys to malware,” the statement said.

Blockstream Jade is equipped with a 16-bit colour display with a resolution of 240 by 135 pixels. Initially, the device runs only on Android. The company plans to add desktop support in the near term, followed by iOS support. Jade uses the Blockstream Green software-wallet interface.

The hardware wallet has a number of features not yet active—for example, an integrated camera. It is anticipated that, in the future, it will enable transactions using QR codes.

Earlier in September, Blockstream introduced the Bitcoin wallet AQUA, which also supports assets on the Liquid Network sidechain.
