Buyers snap up wholesale pre-orders for the latest ASIC miners ahead of spring 2021
Wholesale pre-orders for the latest Bitcoin mining equipment from leading manufacturers have sold out and will not be available again until spring next year, The Block reports.
On Bitmain‘s site, deliveries of flagship miners AntMiner S19 Pro, S19 and T19 are scheduled for May 1–31, 2021. Orders for deliveries before these dates have already been allocated.
According to the publication, distributors’ wholesale prices for AntMiner S19 Pro orders range from $3,800 to $4,100 per unit.
In early November, the same model was fetching an average of $3,300 per unit, and $2,684 for pre-orders with delivery in April 2021.
Competitor MicroBT is also grappling with meeting demand for the WhatsMiner M30 series devices. In a comment to the publication, a MicroBT representative said the company is taking pre-orders for deliveries in April and May next year.
The shortage of available mining equipment is unfolding amid a rapid rise in Bitcoin’s price in the third quarter and growing demand from institutional buyers outside China.
“We are doing everything possible to obtain more chips from Samsung and meet demand for future pre-orders,” MicroBT said.
Many buyers want to purchase more than a thousand devices at once, says Mike Colier, CEO of Foundry, a subsidiary of Digital Currency Group. In September, Foundry expanded its partnership with Bitmain to attract capital into the mining industry in North America.
At the same time, Bitmain noted that North America is rapidly becoming the “epicentre of Bitcoin mining.” Evidence for this, the company cited deal worth $28.8 million to supply Antminer S19 Pro to Riot Blockchain and contract worth $23 million with Marathon Patent Group.
Earlier this month, Nasdaq-listed Bit Digital announced a $13.9 million equity issue to swap for Bitcoin mining equipment.
