Chainalysis: Capitol riot participants received funding in Bitcoin
A month before the unrest in Washington, Capitol riot participants received $522,000 in Bitcoin, according to analysts at Chainalysis.
On January 6, Trump supporters breached the Capitol, where Congress was certifying the results of the presidential election.
According to Chainalysis, on December 8 an unknown French blogger transferred 28.15 BTC to 22 wallets. The largest share (13.5 BTC) went to far-right political commentator Nick Fuentes — during the raid he spoke on a nearby site, the analysts said.
Data: Chainalysis.
“As popular payment platforms cut ties with extremist groups and individuals, we will begin to see a broader spread of cryptocurrencies as a financing mechanism among them,” the company added.
Earlier, Chainalysis analysts noted in the amount of bitcoins linked to illicit activity.
