Core Scientific to acquire more than 58,000 Antminer S19 miners from Bitmain
The American blockchain-hosting provider Core Scientific has signed an agreement with Bitmain Technologies to purchase more than 58,000 Antminer S19 ASIC miners in addition to the previous contract.
According to the press release, the equipment will be delivered by September 2021. The contract brings the total purchases of Antminer S19 and S19 Pro units to 76,024.
The Bellevue, Washington-based firm signed in June with the Chinese manufacturer a contract to acquire 17,595 Antminer S19 units. The devices are already operating in Core Scientific’s data centers in the United States, the company said.
“Since our last purchase agreement with Bitmain in June, Core Scientific has witnessed growing demand from new and existing customers, as well as a significant increase in institutional interest in digital asset mining in North America,” said Kevin Turner, president and CEO of the company.
It is expected that after the new order is fulfilled Core Scientific’s hashrate will reach 7.26 EH/s with a power consumption of 250 MW.
In September Bitmain selected Core Scientific as the sole joint service center in North America.
Earlier in December, the company entered into a partnership with Foundry, which pledged to provide Core Scientific and its clients with $23 million in funding for mining-equipment purchases.
