Core Scientific to receive 6,000 ASIC miners from Canaan
The Chinese manufacturer of mining equipment Canaan Creative will supply 6,000 Avalonminer A1246 units to the American blockchain-hosting provider Core Scientific.
According to the press release, deliveries are set to begin in March 2021 and are expected to be completed within three months.
Core Scientific bought the batch of ASIC miners on behalf of one of the hosting provider’s key clients.
The Avalonminer A1246, introduced by the Chinese company in the third quarter of 2020, delivers a hash rate of 90 TH/s at an energy efficiency of 38 J/TH, which is close to the performance of the flagship models from Bitmain and MicroBT.
“Mainstream investments in digital assets are growing at a geometric pace, with large public companies and financial institutions accelerating their entry into the sector. To meet demand, we are expanding our rapidly growing fleet,” said Kevin Turner, President and CEO of Core Scientific.
In December the firm acquired from Bitmain more than 58,000 units of Antminer S19, with deliveries to be completed by September 2021.
Earlier the Canadian mining firm HIVE Blockchain Technologies purchased from Canaan 6,400 Avalonminer A1246 miners. The company will receive them in batches over eight months, beginning in May. The execution of the contract will be completed in December 2021.
Earlier in January, Canaan unveiled a miner with immersion cooling — the Avalon A1066I.
