Crypto exchange Coinsquare acknowledges user data breach
The Canadian-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinsquare reportedly suffered a breach. The platform says that user assets were not affected, according to CoinDesk.
In an email to clients, the exchange said it was an ‘data incident’ in which a third party gained unauthorized access to users’ personal information.
According to the statement, the attackers obtained ‘names, email addresses, residential addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, wallets, transaction histories and account balances’ of customers.
On November 19, the exchange paused operations, including withdrawals, after detecting the vulnerability.

She assured that “100% of client funds are safely stored in cold wallets” and were not affected by the incident.
Developers restored platform functionality only by November 26. Users still do not have access to the transaction history. The team says it will restore the feature soon.

A number of clients noted a request for re-verification on the platform, as well as a glitch in the 2FA settings.
“Passwords have not been exposed. We have no evidence that the attacker viewed this information,” the team said in the letter.
Earlier in July, the data breach affected the bankrupt Celsius Network.
