Crypto fraud in Russia worth more than 500,000 rubles exposed

A Karachay-Cherkessia resident was a victim of a cryptocurrency scam.

A resident of Karachay-Cherkessia fell victim to a scammer who offered her a chance to earn money from cryptocurrency, writes the Obzor publication.

At the start of 2019, a 19-year-old Russian woman saw online advertising for a cryptocurrency investment platform and sent 30,000 rubles to the ‘broker’. After receiving the initial profits, she transferred another 669,000 rubles to him.

However after that the ‘broker’ stopped responding, and the platform’s website became unavailable.

In March 2019, the police detained the site’s creator. It turned out to be a 29-year-old from Saint Petersburg.

In August 2020, the Malo-Karachayevsky District Court found him guilty of fraud on a particularly large scale and sentenced him to two years in a general regime penal colony. The fraudster will also be required to reimburse the stolen amount to the victim.

Earlier in July, unknown deceived a resident of Norilsk by offering to buy her Bitcoin for 856,000 rubles.
