Deripaska urges Russia’s central bank to take cryptocurrency seriously

Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska urged the Bank of Russia to stop turning a blind eye to the growing cryptocurrency market. He wrote this on his Telegram channel.

In his view, the United States has long understood that unregulated digital payments could threaten the dollar, and also ‘undermine the effectiveness of the entire sanctions mechanism’.

Deripaska mentioned a document on sanctions by the U.S. Treasury, in which these risks are described.

“I wonder, did they read this document at the Bank of Russia? Or do they operate on the principle ‘what we do not see does not exist’? It’s time to open their eyes and take cryptocurrency seriously,” the billionaire wrote.

Earlier Deripaska criticized the central bank for its stance on cryptocurrencies, and also said that the introduction of a digital ruble would protect investments amid sanctions wars.
