Elon Musk proposed changing the approach to switching Twitter’s algorithmic feed to chronological. In his view, the recommendation system manipulates users.

“The algorithm manipulates you so much that you don’t even realise it. Just switch forward and back [between the algorithmic and chronological feed] and see the difference”, wrote Musk.
The billionaire also acknowledged that there may be no malicious intent behind the algorithm.
“It tries to guess what you want to read, while unintentionally manipulating or amplifying your views without your awareness of what is happening”, added the businessman.
Musk also acknowledged that there may be bugs in the code.
“Open-source software is the way to solve the problem of both trust and efficiency”, he wrote.
Earlier, Musk announced the acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion. One of the billionaire’s top tasks is to disclose the source code of the recommendation algorithms and ensure freedom of speech on the platform.
Earlier in May, Musk announced the suspension of the deal to acquire Twitter after reports of inflated audience metrics.
In the same month, the entrepreneur backed the EU bill regulating social media algorithms.
