According to пресс-релизу, the launch followed a period of successful operation of a testnet with 50 shards, used by 1,500 nodes from 29 countries.
The first application launched on the mainnet by the project was the Maiar financial app. It lets users spend, lock for staking, and borrow native ERD tokens. Elrond said Maiar has 40,000 users on a waitlist.
With the mainnet launch, the project unveiled a new economic model aimed at “stimulating the long-term price of ERD”. The token supply of 20 billion ERD will be reduced to 20 million coins through gradual reductions over the next ten years.
Earlier, developers of Matic Network, a layer-2 solution for Ethereum, announced that their testnet had achieved throughput of 7,200 TPS.
