MultiversX rolls out 2FA based on Microsoft and Google technologies

The European blockchain project MultiversX (formerly Elrond Network) unveiled Guardians, a two-factor authentication solution to reduce the risk of crypto theft and fraud.

The standard is implemented as a browser extension and can block any unauthorized wallet transactions.

“Why an extension? Because now the storage cannot obtain consent—and from now on it cannot transfer funds without your approval,” said MultiversX co‑founder Lucian Mincu.

The solution uses biometric technology from the xPortal project and authentication technologies from Google, Microsoft and Authy. Going forward, the list of providers is expected to be expanded.

According to Mincu, the option is “intuitive” for Web 2.0 users transitioning to Web3.

“Billions of dollars have been stolen. This has affected millions of users. That is why we created on‑chain protection in the form of 2FA for all MultiversX wallets,” emphasised the other co-founder of the project and CEO Benjamin Mincu.

In May, Opera announced the integration of MultiversX blockchain into its crypto browser.
