Enthusiast tests top Nvidia CMP mining GPU

The most powerful mining chip in Nvidia’s CMP 170HX series has successfully passed testing in Ethereum, Raven and Conflux.

An enthusiast from China tested the model on Ethash, KawPow and Octopus hashing algorithms.

When mining Ethereum, the hash rate reached 164 MH/s at 250 W, after minor optimizations – 158 MH/s at 190 W.

In KawPow, this figure stood at 52 MH/s, and in Octopus — 68 MH/s.

The card uses HBM2 memory with a 4096-bit bus and bandwidth of nearly 1.5 TB/s. It is based on a cut-down Ampere A100 GPU and features 4,480 CUDA cores. The graphics processor operates at 1,140 to 1,410 MHz.

The device uses a passive cooling system. According to the tester, the clock frequency is highly sensitive to temperature and drops after reaching 70°C.

“The graphics card is designed for algorithms sensitive to memory bandwidth and latency, such as Ethash,” he added.

Overclocking and fine-tuning are not yet available due to the early BIOS version.

There is no official information yet on when the Nvidia CMP 170HX will go on sale.

Nvidia released a line of five CMP chips (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor) to meet demand for GPUs from miners. The performance of the entry-level model in the series on Ethereum mining is 26 MH/s.
