FBI accuses Lazarus Group and APT38 of hacking the Horizon cross-chain bridge on the Harmony protocol for $100 million
In the June 2022 attack on the Horizon cross-chain bridge of the Harmony protocol, amounting to $100 million, North Korean hackers Lazarus Group and APT38 are implicated. The ФБР announced this.
The agency linked the breach to the TraderTraitor malware campaign operated by North Korea. The stolen funds were laundered through the anonymizer RAILGUN.
The FBI managed to freeze $60 million of the amount in coordination with unnamed virtual asset service providers.
Law enforcement officials noted that North Korea uses the stolen funds to finance programs to develop ballistic missiles and weapons of mass destruction.
As reported by Elliptic, Lazarus was linked to the Harmony attack in the summer of 2022.
These same hackers are named responsible for an attack on the Ronin cross-chain bridge in March 2022.
