
Florida to add cryptocurrencies to financial literacy plan
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law to introduce financial-literacy programs in middle schools, including topics related to cryptocurrencies. WFLA reports.

During a press conference, the official said that the legislature did not back his initiative to allocate funding for “blockchain experiments.” Nevertheless the administration is taking steps to allow companies to pay taxes in cryptocurrency.

DeSantis expressed skepticism about the prospect of issuing a digital dollar.
\n\n\n\n
“There is a big difference between decentralized and government-issued cryptocurrencies. There are many dangers, and moreover CBDC is centrally controlled. I am concerned that […] because of the digital dollar, someone in power could in principle close off access to buying certain goods. We may be treading into uncharted territory,” the governor said.

DeSantis also sees a threat in the possibility of financial institutions cutting people off at the government’s direction.

Earlier, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said he planned to allow public employees to receive salaries in Bitcoin.

Before that, he announced forming a team to develop a plan for more active city involvement in the cryptocurrency industry, and the administration voted to study options for integrating Bitcoin into municipal infrastructure.

The Miami-Dade County authorities have formed a group to study the possibility of paying taxes in digital assets.
