Former DC Comics artist sells Wonder Woman NFT for $1.85 million

Former DC Comics artist José Delbo, together with crypto artists Hackatao, earned $1.85 million from the sale of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) featuring Wonder Woman.

Over four days, the artists put up for auction 914 NFTs from the “Heroines” collection. Each token contained one of seven images dedicated to the fight for women's rights and opportunities.

The most expensive piece sold was “Weight of the World”. The illustration shows Wonder Woman bearing the Earth on her shoulders, and it sold for 148.888 ETH (about $271,000 at the time of writing).

The 87-year-old Argentine artist José Delbo illustrated Wonder Woman comics from 1976 to 1981. He also worked on Batman and Transformers publications.

All proceeds from the NFT sale were donated by the artists to Girls Who Code, a group working to close the gender gap in technology.

In early February, actress Lindsay Lohan sold the NFT Lightning for $70,000. The popular meme GIF of Nyan Cat was sold for 300 ETH. In early March, singer Grimes earned about $6m from her NFT collection.

Charlie Lee compared the popularity of NFTs to the ICO boom of 2017 and the altcoin craze of 2013. Earlier he predicted the collapse of NFTs due to “zero cost of their creation”.
