Nyan Cat meme animation sells for 300 ETH at Foundation auction

The popular meme GIF Nyan Cat was sold at a Foundation auction for 300 ETH (~$568,000 at the exchange rate at the time of writing).

The creator of the rainbow cat flying through space in a cookie, Chris Torres, confirmed the sale of a non-fungible token (NFT). The auction lasted 24 hours, with bids starting at 3 ETH.

“I basically opened the door to a completely new meme economy in the crypto world,” Torres said.

In January 2021, the Topps Digital unveiled 18 NFT cards featuring Senator Bernie Sanders in mittens.

In early February, actress Lindsay Lohan sold an NFT Lightning at a Rarible auction for $70,000.

On February 16, Litecoin creator Charlie Lee predicted the collapse of NFTs due to the \”zero cost\” of their creation.

On February 17, Christie’s first put up for auction a non-fungible token. The work Everydays: The First 5000 Days was created by Mike Winkelmann, known as Beeple.
