Fraudsters posing as the WallStreetBets subreddit stole more than $2 million in cryptocurrency

The attackers, posing as the r/WallStreetBets community on Reddit, collected at least 3,451 BNB (more than $2.2 million at the time of writing) and an undisclosed amount in Ethereum from those seeking WSB Finance tokens “before listing on exchanges”. The information was reported by Bloomberg.

In the Telegram channel “WallStreeBets — Crypto Pumps” unknown individuals circulated a proposal to buy the community token during a “premine sale”.

After some time, the channel reported a technical error and urged recipients to resend funds. Otherwise the initial investments would be lost, the message said.

Subsequently, it emerged that the channel had no connection to the r/WallStreetBets community.

“And that’s all for now, I’m buying a Lambo,” the scammers wrote in their parting message.

Rо_ios/Earlier it was reported that r/WallStreetBets founder Jamie Rogozinski will launch a decentralised application for investing in exchange-traded products. Users of the dapp will be able to vote on rebalancing portfolios using WSB tokens.

In January, members of r/WallStreetBets triggered a three-digit surge in GameStop’s shares. Retail investors fought against large players who were shorting the stock.

In March, a Reddit user said that had lost his wife after refusing to sell Bitcoin at $60,000.
