According to researchers, the entire amount was sent in five payments to an address on the Bittrex exchange. The platform did not manage to block the transactions in time.
Additionally, XRP holders were warned about a phishing campaign impersonating Team Ripple offering participation in an XRP airdrop. The attackers invite users to join a “white list,” registration for which requires entering the seed phrase for the Ledger wallet or a private key.
Earlier in October, Ledger users began receiving phishing emails, in which unknown individuals purporting to be the support team claimed that Ledger Live had been infected by malware and offered to install an emergency update.
Victims linked the attack to a July data breach involving around a million users from a marketing database. However, the wallet developers said they have not yet been able to confirm this hypothesis.
In early November, hackers moved 107 BTC to two addresses, proceeds from the attack.
