Hearing in the Vinnik case in the United States set for September 27

The criminal case against the Russian national Alexander Vinnik, extradited to the United States, on charges of laundering at least $4 billion through the Bitcoin exchange BTC-e, is scheduled for 27 September. This, according to сообщает RIA Novosti, citing Judge Sally Kim.

Until then, Vinnik will remain in custody at Santa Rita Jail in California.

It is expected that his interests will be represented by a public defender – attorney David Rizk.

In the United States, Vinnik faces up to 55 years in prison.

Alexander Vinnik was detained in Greece in the summer of 2017. In 2020 he was extradited to France, where he was later sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of €100,000 for money laundering. The charges of extortion and creating the Locky ransomware were dropped.

In early August 2022, the Russian national was brought to the United States. The court refused to grant him bail.
